Lena L. Cisternino
January 5, 1928 ~ May 28, 2008
Gates: Wednesday, May 28, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Nick L and Vivien Cisternino; sisters and brother-in-law, Jean Cardinale, Catherine and Mario Sorge; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; her beloved friends, June, Marge, Dan and Grace; many other dear friends. Lena was a retiree of Schlegel Corporation with fifty years of service.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the 3100 & 3400 units at Interlakes Oncology, Unity Hospital and to Dr. Suozzi for their outstanding care of Lena.
No prior calling. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Monday 11AM at St. Helen's Church, 310 Hinchey Road. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery held at the convenience of family.

I first met Lena when I was emplyed at Schlegel Systems where she had a long career spanning 50 years. I remember her retirement party where Schlegel sent a limo to bring her in for the celebration, and quite a party it was. She was a special lady and I always recalled, she said her first day of work was Sept. 28, 1946, the day and year I was born. That was a ong time ago, but I always was impressed and remembered our connection.
I remember her with fondness and recall her love of family and good friends, trips to Las Vegas and joy of living.
Rest in peace Lena, you will be well remembered.

Lena may be gone from this earth..but she will truly live with us forever…she was something else.
In my mind…I can still see her throwing her bowling ball down the alley…getting a strike…and yelling ‘I’ll take it! I’ll take it!’
Lena was a good cook…a whiz with bread dip. She is the one who convinced me to mix chopped hard boiled eggs in my tuna salad…and you know…it takes great!
Several years ago…on an early summer day…my husband and I stopped by her home to drop off a flat of strawberries so she could make jam. She had heard a squawking noise in the house near the basement and was afraid a bird had slipped in the door…we looked for over an hour for that darn bird…we couldn’t find anything…but we still heard that squawking. Finally…my husband figured out the noise was coming from her smoke alarm…the battery was low…we laughed about that for years.
She was great about directing things…I wouldn’t be surprised if she was up there in heaven…right now…telling St. Peter how to do his job…
Lena had a heart of gold…and you can’t say that about many people.
I am proud to say that I knew Lena Cisternino…and I hope…if I’m lucky…to see her again one day…
Lena was a very special person. As her neighbor for seven yrs. my husband and I quickly learned what a caring and friendly person she was. God bless her and all of you who loved her. She is now with my Richard. God Bless, MARY

The last 6 months have been very difficult.We all suffered with you.I’m not sure how I will manage without you,you have become such a wonderful part of my life.Dan and I are having a hard time with our grief.Daisey May is also being very quiet.Rest in peace.We love you Lena
Lena, You were truely a very special person. You loved with all of your heart and tried to help everyone that you came in contact with. You took me under your wing when I first started working at Schlegel, and we had a friendship that will never end. You will be sadly missed, but you will be in my heart forever. I will love you always. I always loved it when you made sauce, you always said,’God bless you,’ when you saw how much I ate. You always made sure that everyone had a care package to take home too. May the angels in heaven watch over you and I pray that you will be watching over all of us that loved you.
