GREECE: Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the age of 95. Predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Lillian Marcella (Schackelton) Slyck in 1995. Survived by his sons, Paul (Patricia) Slyck of Rochester/Marathon, FL, Peter Eugene (Peggy) Slyck of Rochester/Sodus Point/Clearwater, FL, Michael John (Donna Tubiolo) Slyck; daughter, Patricia (Roberta Liebhaber) Johnson; grandchildren, Jeffrey Peter (Bridget), Jeremy Paul (Stacey) and Jason Patrick (Angela); great grandchildren, Ashley Renee, Emily Rose, Jacob Paul, Olivia Lynn, Curtis James, and Veronica Jeannette; many nieces, nephews and extended family, as well as his faithful companion, 'Sidney'. Joseph was one of eight children born to Lena (Haitz) and Peter Slyck who predeceased him. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School and the Typographical Printers Apprenticeship Program. He was retired from Gannett Newspapers, Democrat & Chronicle after 47 years of service in the composition room. He was an avid golfer for more than 75 years, holding numerous local championship titles throughout his lifetime. In the 1920's he was He was also an 'Air Warden' during WWII. Joseph was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church since 1950. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the Staff at Unity Hospital and Unity Senior Living Center for their care and compassion to the elderly. Friends may call Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home 1075 Long Pond Road. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 9:15 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society in his memorya sign painter for the original Wegman's Food Store on Main St. in Rochester prior to beginning his apprenticeship at the D&C
