Greece: passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the age of 88. She was born on August 19, 1932 to Martha and Harold Burns. A graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School, Joan was a resident of Rochester her entire life. She held several jobs during her career, including many years as office manager of the radiation oncology unit of Highland Hospital. Joan’s greatest joy in life was her family. She frequently displayed her support for those she loved by cheering from the stands at games or the audience at concerts and recitals. Joan also enjoyed spending time on the water, fishing with her husband and children, and loved testing her luck at the racetrack or playing the slots.

 

Predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Sheila Caufield; sister, Beverly Schlageter; granddaughter, Danielle Caufield; ex-husband and lifelong friend, Edward Caufield.

 

Survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Eugene Pierleoni; children, Sue (Tim) Ribis, Tim (Gina) Caufield, Sharon (Eric) Schmidtmann, Patrick (Elaine) Caufield, and Steven (Debbie) Caufield; step-children, Vince (Stephanie) Pierleoni, and Mark Pierleoni (Diane Geiger); grandchildren, Ryan Caufield, Jenna (Rob) Lagnese, Evan Caufield, Erin (Jon) Purington, Eric “Dude” Schmidtmann, Meaghan (Patrick) Davis, Kaitlin Caufield, Kellie Caufield, Stefany Caufield (Joe Coon), Sheila Caufield, Shannon Caufield, Victoria Pierleoni, and Matt Pierleoni, great-grandchildren Justin Lagnese, Calvin and Jasper Purington, and Annabel Coon, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends “Tas” and Mary Anne Tasbas.

 

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately Thursday (Feb 11th) at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 3003 Dewey Avenue. Private Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

 

The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of the Latta Road West nursing home and Unity Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Project Independence at Monroe Community Hospital, or to a charity close to your heart.
