H. Scott Wiley
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. – Psalms 23:6
Born in 1928 in Auburn, NY.
We are sad to announce the passing of Horace Scott Wiley of Rochester, NY. With family by his side, our deeply loved father and grandfather went to be with our Lord and Savior on September 9, 2022. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carline Deplidge Wiley, his parents, Eva and Jason, and brothers, LaRue and Robert. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Wiley and Elizabeth (Michael) Wiegand, by his grandchildren, Shane Wiegand (Jennie Dixon) and Sarah Wiegand and by many nieces and nephews.
After attending Syracuse University, Scott graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He then served our country as a captain in the United States Air Force. He then established the first pediatric dental office in Greece in 1959 and grew it into a thriving practice before retiring in 1992.
He and Carline were long-time members of Bethany Presbyterian Church prior to their move to Aldersgate United Methodist Church. At Aldersgate Scott served for many years in the lay ministry practice, visiting church members who were ill; he was also dedicated to supporting their Grief Share program and its participants. Scott and Carline were loyal members of the Greece Historical Society and were avid bridge players. In addition, Scott was a dedicated member of the Greece Rotary Club for more than 50 years, serving as president and receiving recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow.
In later years, Scott served our Lord and many members of the community while volunteering for Aldersgate, hospice and Lifetime Care. He also continued a lifelong passion for travel, going on several cruises and international trips with family.
We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of the Highlands at Pittsford Living Center for their outstanding care and compassion during dad’s final months.
His celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 10:00 a.m. at Aldersgate, 4115 Dewey Ave, Greece. Interment will be deferred as his remains have been donated to the University of Rochester School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or the Greece Rotary in his memory.
