Greece: June 4, 2009 at age 93. Predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Sperring; brothers, Lance Sperring, Ross Sperring & Rev. Ernest “Jack” Sperring. He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Sperring of Chicago & Barbara (Jim) Zerkel; grandchildren, Rob Manville & Renee (Jeff) Mann; great-grandchildren, Julia & Owen Mann; sister, Audrey (Chiro) Spinnichia; special friend, Gretchen Aulls; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends. Gil graduated from Cornell Univeristy with a B.A. Gilbert retired in 1980 from Eastman Kodak. He was a past teacher for the Naples School District, taught at RIT, was a member of the Retired Professionals Society and was an assistant to the dean of the U of R. Gilbert was very active in the Greece Central Board of Education, Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center, the Ecumenical Food Shelf and the Lakeshore Garden Club. Friends may call Friday, 4-7 P.M. at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Funeral Service will be held, Saturday xxx at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 75 Stutson Street. Interment in Irondequoit Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 160 Allens Creek Road, Rochester NY 14618 or to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing center, 6725 Lyons Street, PO Box 7, East Syracuse NY 13057 in his memory.
