Greece: Thursday, August 8, 2013 peacefully at age 75 after a long courageous battle against cancer. Predeceased by his wife, Mary F. Gladey; parents, Samuel and Arlene (Hoover) Gladey; brother, Reed Gladey of Wilkes-Barre, PA. Survived by his loving daughter, Mary Jo Lyke; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alexander; brother-in-law, Joseph (Elizabeth) Gibbons of Marietta, GA., Sister-in-law, Beulah 'Sis' Gladey of Wilkes-Barre, PA; cousin, Helen O'Brien of Kingston, PA.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Earl is a proud Veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was born and raised in Kingston/Wilkes-Barre, PA. and moved to Rochester, NY in the early1960's 's. He served the Eastman Kodak Company as a computer programmer for 35 years and later retired from Digital Equipment Corporation. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Wilmot Cancer Center, Strong Wound Healing Center, Lifetime Care, URMC Palliative Care Program, St. John's Home and Hospice and longtime friends and neighbors for all the love, care and support given not only to Earl, but his family as well. Earl's visitation will be held Sunday, August 18th from 1-4PM at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road, Greece Chapel. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday August 19th, 9:30 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Avenue, Rochester, NY 14616. Interment with Military Honors will follow Mass in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) , Wilmot Cancer Center (www.urmc.rochester.edu), Lifetime Care (www.lifetimecare.org), or St. John's Home (www.stjohnsliving.org) in his memory.
