Rochester: Friday, December 20, 2024. Survived by his wife, Margaret (Midge); son, Robert III (Robby); daughter, Valerie Mault (Michael); granddaughter, Michaela Mault; step-grandsons, Michael and Logan Mault; mother, Shirley Cutt; sisters, Carol Antonelli (Robert), Linda Muscarella; mother-in-law, Veronica Lembke; brothers-in-law, Mark Lembke (Marcia Buckley) and Matthew Lembke; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Robert J. Cutt, Sr and father-in-law Robert Lembke. Retired from City of Rochester Police Department.
Married Midge after a whirlwind romance that started in the emergency department at St. Mary’s Hospital. They became engaged three months after meeting and married less than eleven months after becoming engaged. They spent over 40 years together. Married 39 years, through thick and thin, good times and bad. Bob was a creative, inventive artisan who could take pieces of nothing and create inspired things. He would look at something and say, “I have a plan” and whatever that plan was, it always worked. Midge would say, “How did you think of this? You should patent it”. He never did.
He was a gifted craftsman, making handmade custom holsters from a piece of leather. He came up with his own designs. He learned this skill when he first bought guns because he couldn’t afford holsters. His designs were inspired and his leather can be found around the world.
He was a lover of all things firearms, a talented firearms instructor and weapons expert. He loved electronics, computers, photography and was amazing when it came to cooking on a grill. Little gave him more pleasure than sitting on the deck in the summer, grilling something and target shooting in our back yard with his latest passion, CO2 guns. He created a “range” with targets throughout the yard with measurements and would test different BBs and pellets and keep records on each.
He had a sense of humor that was wry and sarcastic.
He loved his family, especially his children, for whom he would do anything. He was so proud of them. It gave him great joy to walk Valerie down the aisle when she got married, loved to go to their house and shoot with her husband and step-sons in their back yard. He would bring an array of weapons and enjoyed spending time with them. His face always lit up when he saw our granddaughter and pictures of her when he couldn’t be with her. He was proud of Robby, relying on him for so much. He has been a God-send and made our lives easier by being with us. They enjoyed many common interests and had the same opinions on many topics.
He was a lover of animals, and our latest love Max, was his constant buddy.
He had a huge and varied circle of friends, many of whom he considered family. He was able to create a rapport with people anywhere and at any time.
He achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. A career that was part of his DNA. He was a police officer to his bones. Prior to that he was an EMT, police dispatcher and in the first class of Civilian Evidence Technicians for the City of Rochester Police Department. He went through the police academy for the Town of Gates and lateralled back to the city. He retired after 26 years of service. He missed being a police officer every day. He continued teaching firearms to various agencies for several years and always had the scanner on and was proud that his daughter carried on the family tradition of becoming a police officer.
Over the last years, he overcame obstacles with is health with steadfast courage and determination. In spite of how he felt, he rarely complained despite pain and setbacks. He was so talented. He was a protector. He was a patriot. He was a good man and he has earned his rest.
Friends may call Thursday (Jan 16th) 4-8 PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday (Jan 17th) 10:30 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Church. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
The Association of Rochester Police and Area Law Enforcement Retirees (ARPALER) sends condolences and prayers to the family of Officer Robert Cutt, and we salute him for his service to his community. Rest in peace Brother.
I wear one of your handmade excellent holsters everyday with pride. Great craftsman, soft spoken gentleman.
Dear Bobby, Looking back on all our training, holster projects, and police work since 1978, you will be missed. You were a true friend. Your suffering is at an end. God bless you and go with him now.
Bob will be missed. He really was a true friend and brother. His family are in my prayers.
Bob, you were a great guy and a great friend. I proudly wear one of your Custom Holsters every day and also own 4 more. I will miss you my friend.
Prayers for his soul and for his family and friends during this difficult time. Bob was a true friend who was the only one who could get into the drivers seat of my K-9 car and actually have the dog play with him. We shared many good times together working over-nights with the RPD and gun shows. Bobby was a good street cop and an even better person. I shall miss him a lot.
To one of my closest and dearest friends… I will miss you and those “Lunches” at Robbies… You definitely listened through some of the toughest times in my life and called me out when necessary…
Rest It Peace Brother, God Bless You…
Bob it was an honor knowing you and working with you! You are a great gentleman, police officer, and artist you will be deeply missed!💙💙
Brother Bob, I will always cherish our time spent together and our similar sense of humor, Rest in Peace my dear Friend
My sincere condolences to the Cutt family. I will always remember the times we worked together & the holsters he made for me. The times at the firearms training unit, and sitting in that beat up van, recording & watching undercover operations. May God bless you & your family.
I worked with Bob at Gates pd. After retirement I moved to Texas but several years ago I knew I would be visiting Rochester. I was only in town a couple days but a quick call to Bob and he created a holster for me. Still wear it and it didn’t cost a dime.. great guy. Rest well.
To my classmate and friend, may you now rest in peace without pain. You were a wonderful friend to me and many others. I know that you’ll be missed.
Bob, you will be sorely missed. You excelled at firearms training and your talented holster fabrications were beyond reproach. I especially enjoyed socializing with you at monthly meetings at the Boulevard. Rest well, mission accomplished.
Bobby,
You were a good friend from our first days in Gates before you made the move to RPD. Proud to call you friend. Midge was the best choice of your life and I am glad you had each other for as long as you did. Deb & I will keep you both in our thoughts and prayers.
Brother Bob as I was getting close to retirement you brought me into the wonderful “ gang “ during the monthly choir practices held at the Boulevard . Ohh what a time we had ! Enjoyed all the world problems we solved and still enjoy the many holsters you made for me over the years. Rest in peace with no more pain my Friend . 💙👮🏻♀️🙏
Midge,Val, and Bob III, I want to express sincere condolences for your loss. I got to know Bob better when we worked together in the narcotics unit. Bob was one of the most exceptional technicians who knew his stuff. I still have a shotgun sling he made specifically for me for a detail on Hudson Ave. that hid under my long trench coat. Bob made me so many holsters, and they are still like brand new. I have so many stories, but the main thing is that Bob was a sincere blessed friend and I always called him when things got challenging. I visited him, we went out for lunch a lot. I’ll never forget about Bob, he’s in my heart and soul. Love you Brother. I know you will be looking down on your granddaughter and making sure she is safe. God Bless
Bob was a great guy. I have like others purchased a holster from him which was finely crafted. One time when I was working in the Tactical Unit we were assisting on a search warrant at a location on the westside of the city. Bob knew that I had lost a family pet a yellow one year old lab retriever that got out of a fenced yard and was tragically struck by a car. Bob knew I was sad about this, and during the search warrant a person in the neighborhood showed up with a 6 month old mutt named Snoopy. This person said he couldn’t care for the dog and was taking it to the shelter. The next day I picked Snoopy up and my family had 14 years of a wonderful, loyal addition to our family. Bob had a big heart and was a positive influence on many. My prayers are with Bob’s loved ones and I will never forget his encouragement that had such a dramatic impact on my family. Until we meet again Bob, thank you.
My condolences to Bob’s family and many friends. Like many others, I proudly wore several of Bob’s holsters. He was a very dedicated guy as a police officer, a craftsman or whatever else he did. Rest in peace brother.
My sincerest sympathies to Bob’s family and friends. I have many fond memories of him turning in evidence to the property clerk whether it was when he was a technician or an officer. Just a nice guy and a dedicated public servant and it was an honor to work with him.
So sorry for your loss worked with Bob at gates pd great guy
My deepest sympathy on Bob’s passing. Bob was the senior Officer on Maple 1st Platoon when we first met. He was an outstanding role model and always had time to offer advice & guidance. I enjoyed working with Bob as a Firearms Instructor. He had a real knack for teaching marksmanship fundamentals, identifying and addressing shooter issues with depth of knowledge and a smile. I am fortunate and honored to have served with Bob. God Bless.
We have lost a great man, friend and comrade. The laughs and talks among friends will be missed so very much. God Speed my very dear friend.
