Congratulations to Mike Vickers on selection to his biggest Disc Jockey (DJ) gig forever! The loving energy of his beautiful smile, kind gentle baritone voice, and impeccable taste in music made him the natural choice to help direct the biggest celebration imaginable, a heavenly party which he began January 31st, 2022. Mike started training for this new gig in Baltimore, Maryland on March 10th, 1953, born to his parents William and Lillian Vickers who went before him to prepare for his heavenly arrival. After preparation in Catholic grammar school, Mike went into a high school where his beautiful speaking voice put him on track for training in the radio industry. It was there where he developed his love for pop music and automobiles.
Mike moved to Rochester specifically to work as a DJ and he plied his trade at WBBF, WCMF, WRMM, and finally at WLGZ where he spun the oldies on Sunday afternoons. He was beloved by his fellow radio family members and families around the Rochester area who hired him to DJ parties. While working in the Rochester area he met the love of his life, Deloris Alexander whom he married November 24, 1994. Deloris and the Regional Transit Service (RTS) both felt Mike should have more “steady work.” Since Mike loved driving and people, driving RTS buses was a natural solution and Mike loved maneuvering the big buses for RTS.
He is especially cherished by his church family at St. Charles Borromeo where he was well known as a dapper dresser and patron of the amazing choir at St Charles. Mike contributed his beautiful voice as lector and master of ceremonies for fund raising events of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. His church friends became family and supported him after his loss of Deloris on July 7th, 2015. As Mike’s memory faltered he leaned on his beloved church family until he became a ward of the state with the Catholic Family Center as his guardian. The staff and residents at Hill Haven and The Villages of Orleans County nursing homes loved his engaging personality. All who knew Mike highly recommended him for the new DJ gig forever.
Calling hours for Mike’s Church, radio, and RTS families will be held Friday (March 4th) 6-8 PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church March 5th 11:30 AM. Private Interment, Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The St Vincent de Paul Society at St Charles Borromeo or Catholic Family Center in his memory.

Family and Friends, I was so very sorry to hear about the loss of a wonderful man and co-worker… Mike was such a kind and gentle soul…..and I appreciated all the kindnesses he bestowed upon me while we worked together at the radio stations. I was privileged to work with Mike at WKLA from 1990 to 1993. You could not have asked for a better coworker, there has never been a more talented radio personality, and especially there has never been anybody nicer than Mike. He was a joy to work with and a joy to know. ❤️
Always always a smile bigger than than his phenomenal pipes. I was blessed to see him one last time when he was at Fairport canal days. Stand back Heaven has a new soloist and a top tier angel. I am glad I and we have great memories!
I worked with Mike for many years at WMJQ (WBEE) and WBBF AM & FM. I was honored to share many long conversations with him, between getting in and off the air! He had a freakishly great memory, you could name a song and he would know exactly which one it was on this wall of carts and cd’s! We also shared a love all of things transportation! When Mike began driving for RTS I would loved the early mornings I would see him downtown me driving to work and he starting his route! There is no doubt this kind and gentle soul is in the arms of the Lord right now! Rest In Peace my friend❤️

I remember listening to Mike for many years on so many radio stations in Rochester and years ago when he was the dj at the garage door on Saturday nights
Mike was a phenomenal DJ. He played at my 60th birthday party. He was a big hit. I hired him for my outside parties. Everyone loved him. He will be missed. Now he’s with his love. RIP
I got to know Mike first as a listener to Q 92 and then as a colleague at WKLX. A nicer man you would never find. He would give the shirt off his back for you. I met Mike before he became my co-worker at RTS behind Midtown Plaza. He was probably on his way to work as a radio DJ. He used to ask me about my job as a bus driver so I knew he was interested in driving. The radio industry was changing for the worst for Mike. He used to tell me we were kind of in the same business musically. I’m a musician, playing in band while he was still a DJ. He was a great guy with a tremendous voice for radio, the best in my opinion. Mike will be sadly missed. Rich Fiordeliso
I knew Mike when he was a DJ At the Garage door! And remember him on the radio stations. What a nice man. Worked with him at RTS. Mike is with his wife in Heaven! I know he is very happy to be with her! You will be missed!
It was a great honor and pleasure to have worked with Mike at WLGZ (Legends 102.7). He constantly amazed me with his almost “unnatural” knowledge of even obscure musical history. He could tell you what BOTH sides of an old 45 record were – AND the year it was done! Amazing. He always lit up the room with his wonderful smile and his infectious laugh. And .. let’s not forget his bright yellow Chevy SST! Now, that’s a “happy” car! Thanks Mike for giving me such happy memories.
So very sad to learn of Mike’s passing. We met just about 40 years ago when he was a DJ in Baltimore, MD. My son & I attended the Lilac Festival him in the great Ra-Cha-Cha. Fond memories a great guy.
So sorry to learn of Mike’s passing this late. He was a wonderful dj for our wedding back in 1993. Such a sweet soul.
I remember Mike so well. I lived in Rochester during my "early years." I owned an ad agency and utilized his MASSIVE VOICE on commercials for local businesses. I can still recall him sitting in my recording booth. Great guy! RIP Mike.
I was the event/wedding planner for The Riversedge Party House. Mike was our party house DJ. He was a great guy to work with!
I missed saying goodbye. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything I ever did to wrong you. I know you loved me. I’m so sorry I’ve never had peace about lying to you all those years ago. Now you are gone.
My condolences to my name sake. Ive been trying to reach and look for him for some time. Not knowing whom he was but a lot of people said he was a good man. To find out that he past on my birthday is kind of a strange feeling. But may he rest in continuous peace. Love to the FAMILY
