Rochester: June 13, 2021 at age 71 Jesus welcomed Matthew into heaven.

Our family is deeply saddened at our loss, but we rejoice that he is in the arms of Jesus. He is now secure with the Lord, healthy, whole and free!

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Patty; children, Brian Miller, Andrew (Alma) Miller; grandsons Daniel and Jeremiah; brothers Michael (Cecilia) Lanzoni, Anthony (Mary) Lanzoni.

Matthew was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam conflict.  He was a dedicated substance abuse counselor for over 30 years and, as such, influenced the lives of many. He was an active member of First Bible Baptist Church and began, with the help of others, the Healing Journey Ministry.  He enjoyed playing golf, rooting for the Buffalo Bills but most of all attending his grandsons’ sporting events and school activities.  The title he valued most was given to him by his grandsons, “Pop-pop.” He always radiated happiness with a smile and kind words.  He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us to celebrate Matthew’s life on Thursday, July 8th at 11:00 AM at First Bible Baptist Church, 990 Manitou Rd., Hilton, N.Y.  We appreciate your love and prayers!

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in his memory.

Matthew 25:23 “His lord said unto him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

Dear Patty and family, When I think of Matthew I think of his warm loving hug every time he greeted you! He was an engaging warm person who was always fun to be with! I pray he is now at peace and sending his strength and love to all and watching over us. My thoughts and prayers are with Matthew and your family. Sincerely, Dave Memmel

This is poem I wrote in Matthew’s last days. His kindness was as vibrant. His love for humanity was immense. Matthew is missed but I’m blessed to have met this amazing man of God. BROTHERLY LOVE I couldn’t understand what he said His voice was hardly audible So, I placed my hand on his shoulder and prayed Afterwards he reached towards my hand and clasped it like my father used to There we were, two grown men clasping hands on a hospital bed and then… With all his might he pulled my hand across his chest to his mouth and kissed it No words were exchanged But oh my goodness What an inspirational moment What an honor He communicated without words And spoke his heart through a kiss to a friend Then and there I received good will A Thank you And Brotherly love In the midst of all the people I visit on a daily basis, this hidden treasure encourages me to continue my work as a chaplain He had such a dear heart And I was so blessed

Matthew has been the kindest and most loving man we have ever known. He always welcomed us with open arms and a warm hug. We have so many memories of our times together at home, at Cape Vincent and in Florida. We never heard Matthew say a harsh work and he was always so thankful for even the smallest gesture. These memories and more are fresh in our hearts and minds. Matthew’s long hug at the beach was our good-bye and we blew kisses to one another sending them with our hands. We love you, Matthew. Dearest friend, Patty, you and your family are in our hearts. May God bless each of you with peace and the Joy of Matthew’s very being. Our love is with each of you. Tom & Marilyn Ferris
