Howard J Milton

Born in Rochester, NY, Howard was an active person. While attending Charlotte High School, he participated in many athletic activities; one which he continued into his later years was Swimming. He also enjoyed taking a walk or enjoying a Bike Ride around town. When not outdoors, Howard could be found swimming at the local YMCA.
After graduating from Charlotte H.S. Howard enlisted in the US Army as a Paratrooper for the 188th Parachute Infantry Regiment, then transferred to a Chiefs ranking in the Communications Division. Howard was honorably discharged July 1946 and earned the Army of Occupation medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, and WWII victory medal.
Upon Howards return from the Military, He met his wife Sandy. In those days, Dance Halls were the places that people met and dated. This was the case for Howard and Sandy (besides enjoying Charlotte Beach). Howard and Sandy married November 6th, 1954 and had 4 children; Mitchell (Carol) Milton, Sharon (William) Rowe, Jim Milton and Laurie (Matthew) Dobbins and were delighted spending time with their 12 Grandchildren , 2 Great-Grandchildren and friends and family they traveled to see around the country.
Howard found his next career working at the Gannett Democrat & Chronicle Newspaper. He took many roles within the company, From Typesetting to page layout in the composing room. Howard retired from the D&C and traveled extensively throughout the USA with Sandy; eventually finding a 2nd home in Venice, FL for half of the year.
Howard and Sandy continued to learn and grow throughout time spent in Florida. Sandy continued her talents in Music and Art, while Howard reignited his musical talents as he played out locally with friends playing his (many) harmonicas & Fiddle, all while continuing to enjoy the Florida sunshine and spending time by the pool together.
Howard and Sandy returned to Rochester permanently after 25 years as snowbirds to spend their final years with their children and grand-children and their close friends and family.
The family wishes to thank all the Staff and Doctors at Highland Hospital who supported and took care of him in his final days on this earth.
Howard and Sandy will be missed and will be loved always.
His Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Private interment.
So sorry for your loss. Howard was quite a guy. The memories will last forever.
Just found out about Howard’s passing. Lived across the street from him and Sandy. Wonderful couple, he reminded me a great deal of my father. Rest In Peace Howard.
