Greece: Suddenly, at home, Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at age 90. Predeceased by her husband, Abraham E. Issa; brother, George Joseph; sisters, Katherine Nicholaus and Barbara Joseph. Survived by her children, Kathryn (Russ) Scott, Susan (Jeffrey) Joseph, Bob (Teresa) Issa, Mary Jean (Jeff) Thurlow; grandchildren, Alissa (David) DiNarda, Russell Scott, Rachel (Matt) Heberle, Matthew Scott, Melanie Issa, Abbey Joseph, Laura Thurlow, Andrea Thurlow; great-grandchildren, Lucas DiNarda, Layla Mabel DiNarda, Evan Heberle; her siblings, Richard (Ann) Joseph, Dorothy (Gordon) Churchill, Michael (Marie) Joseph, Diane (James) Khouri; sister-in-law, Josephine Joseph; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mabel graduated from Geneseo State Teacher’s College in 1945, was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and attended graduate school at Columbia University. She was a 2nd grade teacher at Lincoln Park School No. 44 until her retirement from the Rochester City School District in 1981. An American History enthusiast, world traveler, talented cook, seamstress and faithful member of her church, she was active in several senior citizens’ groups where she exercised, made crafts, hiked and crocheted. Most of all, Mabel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose wisdom and zest for life will be missed by all who knew her. Friends may call Monday (Sept 29th) 1-4 at Vay-Schleich and Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road, where a Trisagion Service will be held Monday afternoon at 4:00 PM. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday 11:00 AM at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 962 East Ave. Interment, White Haven Memorial Park. I was fortunate to meet Mabel at Unity where we exercised in classes together. Mabel was just so humble. I did not realize all that Mable accomplished in her lifetime. She was always the first to ask ‘How are you doing’. Mabel, we will miss you but are also comforted to know that you are in a better place.
