    Hi Lee,
Sorry to hear about Dick’s passing. We always enjoyed the fishing trips when we lived in Orchard Brook. They were some of the best times that I will always remember.

    Lee,
So very sorry to learn that Dick has past. He was a long time friend and a person I respected both professionally and as a person. My condolences to you and the girls.

    Heidi and Holly,
Your dad was a real inspiration to us in the profession. He was always a step ahead of everyone else in patient treatment and technology. I am very saddened that he has left us. He was a true hero in my book. I will always remember him in aspecial way every 9-2.

Thank you for your message, Eleanor. Rich developed pneumonia, which took his life. It was a blessing because he was in such pain without enough pain meds, but confused by such heavy doses.

Thank you for your thoughts. He was fine on Easter and paralyzed by Friday. A tumor pressing on the spine was the cause. The original site was the kidney, however. Pneumonia caused his death. It all seems unreal because it unfolded so fast. It is a blessing he is gone as he was in a lot of pain.

Thank you, Carl. It was unexpected as he was fine on Easter. By Friday he couldn’t walk. A tumor pressing on the spine was the cause. The origianl site was the kidney. He died of pneumonia, however, which was a blessing.

Thanks, Marcia. The photo was part of a picture taken at Holly’s wedding in 1995. She and Dan were married in Las Vegas. We had a great time. Rich had a good sense of humor right up to the end. I tried to call, but didn’t find you home. I will keep trying. Lee

  12. Dr. Lee Edwards on June 24, 2014 at 12:00 am

Dear Lee: Richard was a good friend and respected colleague. So sorry to hear of his passing. It was a pleasure to have filled in for a week at his Hilton office some years ago and to have the support that his staff gave me. He seemed to love Orthodontics and was active in the New York State Associations of Orthodontists, and so it surprised me that his fine longtime career in Orthodontics was not mentioned in his obituary. I knew Dick as a real nice person and I’m truly sorry if he suffered near the end of his life. Most Sincerely: Lee Edwards

    Mrs Lee Strauss and family,
Very sorry to hear about Richard .
Enjoyed working with him in the building. Dr. Strauss was such nice kind man and lots of fun. I remember him dressing up for Halloween and how much fun the kids had coming to his office.
    Rest in peace.

We were sorry to hear of Dr Strauss’ death. Both our daughter Jen, and, myself ( in my 40’s!) had him as our orthodontist . I remember when he wasn’t able to be there when my braces were removed, left me a bottle of champagne that Dr Fox gave me. A very nice man, as well as all his office staff.

Thank you, Lee, for your message. The obit on the Meeson web site mentions his education and that he practiced 39 years. Other than that I guess we thought everybody knew him as an orthodontist since he and Bill Piarulli treated most of the cases in the town. Great years! We re-connected with paitents who are now nurses, or mothers of patients who worked in some capacity at Unity or St. John’s. Even ill, he had fun with them. Lee
