Richard Ulrich

Greece: January 13, 2013. Born March 3, 1921 in Astoria NY. Beloved husband of over 66 years, father, grandfather and great grandfather, predeceased by his parents, John and Elsie Ulrich. A professional mechanical engineer with Eastman Kodak for nearly 30 years, Dick was responsible for several of the company’s patents and innovative manufacturing apparatus. He was an expert designer, craftsman and builder who prided himself on doing good work in his every endeavor. His life shall be remembered for his dedicated service toward others. He was a decorated World War II veteran (member of the Genesee Valley Chapter of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge), lifelong Scouter and Freemason (Knights Templar). His love of Scouting led him on an over 80-year journey with the Boy Scouts of America, mostly in the Rochester area. An Eagle Scout at an early age and scoutmaster at 21, he continued to devote his life to the purposes of fellowship, morals and leadership development and training in young men and adults. He was active in Greece Baptist Church and the community for over 58 years. He’s known for leading great campfire stories and songs. His engaging, wonderful sense of humor and compassion touched the lives of so many others. He is survived by his loving wife, Fran, children Barbara Stephenson (Peter), Richard Jr. and Robert (Jan), grandchildren Christine, Melanie and John Stephenson, great grandchildren Nora and Dakota, brother Arthur (Marian) and many nieces and nephews. ’My God and I go through the fields together, We walk and talk as good friends should and do, We clasp our hands, our voices ring with laughter, My God and I walk through the morning dew…’ His Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2:00 pm, Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Rd., Rochester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greece Baptist Church Memorial Fund, Cameron Community Ministries or Seneca Waterways Council- BSA.
