Greece: Sunday, August 26, 2012. Born, Sept 23, 1924 in Rochester, NY. He is predeceased by parents; William and Anna; brother, William. Ellis is survived by his caring wife, Alice (66yr); daughter, Susan; sons Michael (Beverly) and Scott (Jennifer); grandsons, Aaron (Christine), Brett and Benjamin (Lindsay); granddaughter, Amy (John) Keller; great-granddaughters, Emma and Abby Faro and Grace and Kinsley Keller; brother, John; and nieces and nephews. Ellis served in WWII as a navigator in the 8th Air Force, flying 34 missions, 14 as lead navigator (squadron and group). He earned DFC and 5 air medal and was a life member of the 379th Bomb Group Association. More than 20 of his missions were flown in the B-17 01′ Gappy (Topper) that flew more missions (157) than any other plane in the 8th Air Force. Ellis was employed by Bausch & Lomb, Early Settler (30+ years of service as corporate director of safety, employment wage and salary training) and worked 15 years with the Industrial Management Council of Rochester as manager and was vice-president of the Rochester Industrials Placement Services (now Rochester Business Alliance). He was a charter member and president of ASSE Genesee Valley Chapter, chair of the Fire Prevention Committee Rochester Safety Council, and BOCES 2 Employment Advisory Board (14yr.), among others. No prior calling. His Memorial Service will be held Tuesday (Sept 4th) 10:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, Greece. Interment is at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy appreciated and may be directed to the charity of one’s choice in Ellis’s memory.

    Alice, It was so good seeing you recently. I am so sorry to read about Ellis in the morning paper. In my files I still have many of the suggested camping sites he sent to us. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. We all go back a long way, don’t we? So many thoughts of Concordia and our growing up days. God’s richest blessing on all of you.     Worked with Mr. Faro many years ago at B&L. He was one of the greatest bosses I had over the years. I remember him very fondly. God Bless his family.
