Stephen C. Weber

Stephen Crane Weber, 93, of Rochester, NY died December 22 at Hildebrandt Hospice Center after a short illness. Mr. Weber was born on February 6, 1917 in Haddonfield NJ, son of Ralph Eugene Weber and Helen Clark Crane Weber. He graduated from Deerfield Academy and Yale University and was an Engineer at Eastman Kodak Company for forty-two years until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Weber was a Fellow and former President of the Rochester Academy of Science, and has served as chair of both the Astronomy and Botany Sections. He was also a Fellow of the Rochester Museum and Science Center. He served in leadership positions with the Bergen Swamp Preservation Society, the Finger Lakes Trail Conference, the Crescent Trail Hiking Association of Perinton, the Burroughs Audubon Nature Club, and was a long time member of the Old Philosophers Group. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, hiking, swimming, nature photography, sailing and canoeing. He was known for his inquisitive mind and ability to ‘fix anything’. He also continued his life-long love of music through singing and listening to good opera and orchestral music. He was an Ordained Presbyterian Elder and member of Third Presbyterian Church, Rochester, NY. He was respected, admired and loved by his family and friends. Mr. Weber was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of fifty-four years, Margaret Lynette Kershner Weber; his second wife, Metta Beeler Palumbo Weber; his close friend Esther Bushnell; and his brother, Ralph Eugene Weber, Jr. He is survived by his three children, Joyce Weber Loughlin (and husband Howard) of Fayetteville, NC; David Kershner Weber (and wife Claudia) of Rochester, NY; and Nancy Weber Canales (and husband James) of Stevens Point, WI. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Daniel Hopkins Loughlin (and wife Alana) of Raleigh, NC; Gregory Weber Loughlin (and wife Natallie) of Atlanta GA; Matthew Pons Weber (and wife Rebecca) of Rochester, NY; Stephanie Crane Weber of Stanford, CA; Anna Rose Canales of Madison, WI; Renee Beth Canales of Minneapolis, MN; and five great-grandchildren, Margaret, Kathleen, and John Patrick Loughlin; and Robin and Meredith Weber. Stephen’s Memorial Service will be held, Friday, May 20, 2011, 2 PM, in the Chapel at Third Presbyterian Church, 4 Meigs Street, Rochester, 14617. Burial will be held privately in the Weber Plot at Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica, NY. Memorials may be made to the Burroughs Audubon Nature Club c/o John Gordon 126 Ayrault Road Fairport, NY 14450
