Greece, NY: Dawn E. Briggs, 79, passed away on September 1, 2026 at Hildebrant Hospice Care Center.  Dawn is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, William Briggs. Dawn was a devoted mother to her four children; Cristin (Ben) Heselton, Eric (Kim) Briggs, Brian (Lynn) Briggs, and Bethany (Mike) Schroeder.  One of Dawn’s greatest joys was her nine grandchildren, Christopher, Juliana, Aidan, Nicholas, Alexa, Natalie, Ava, Kayla, and William.  She is survived by her siblings David (Mary K) Reid, Robin (David) Kepler, and Duane (Grace) Reid.  Dawn was blessed with many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.

Dawn was born in Rochester, NY, the daughter of the late Edmund and Helen Reid. She attended St. Monica’s and St. Agnes schools before attending Niagara University to study Nursing. After earning her BSN in nursing, Dawn worked for many years as a Registered Nurse.  During her nursing career, Dawn worked at Rochester General Hospital, performed private duty nursing, taught at Action for a Better Community and U of R, and ended her career working for Dr. Xenias Dermatology. Dawn was a proud nurse who frequently stated, “Once a nurse, Always a nurse!”

Dawn lived a life of service.  She was involved in the church, serving as Chairperson of the Parish Council at Mother of Sorrows Church, volunteered at Mother of Sorrows school, and served as a Eucharistic Minister.  She volunteered at a soup kitchen and provided home communion to many people in the St. Charles Borromeo Church community. Following her nursing career, Dawn volunteered with Bill and their beloved dog Riley, for Therapy dog International- bringing joy to many in hospitals, schools, and hospice centers.

Above all, Dawn will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, living her life for her family. She loved to host gatherings at their home for family and friends and had a wonderful sense of humor.  Dawn loved deeply, generously, and unconditionally, always making sure that others felt her love.

Family and friends may call Friday (September 4th) 4-7PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday (September 5th) 9:30 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Ave.  Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western NY or UR Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital.

I worked with Dawn at Dr. Stephen Xenias’s office. We immediately “clicked”. She was a true joy in our office. The staff loved her and the patients loved her. Her sense of humor and kindness is what I will remember most about her. She was a kind and gentle soul. We will miss you my friend. RIP
