Rochester: beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished member of her family passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026 at the remarkable age of 102.  She was born on February 10, 1924 in Santiago, Chile.  

She is survived by her husband, Enrique Astudillo; her children, Maria Elashmawy, Guillermo Astudillo; her grandchildren, Pablo (Jannette) Astudillo, Christian Astudillo, Guillermo (Priscilla) Astudillo, Evelyn Astudillo; her great Grandchildren, Christopher, Cassandra, Marcelo, Mateo, Isabella, Alexandria, Lucas, Maximo, Niccolas, Daniel, Adrianna, Christian Jr; her great-great grandchildren, Eli, Payton, Christopher Jr.; many nieces and nephews.

Maria treasured her family.  She was a devoted mother to her children Maria Elashmawy and Guillermo Astudillo who were the center of her world. 

Throughout her life Maria was known for her warmth, kindness, quick wit and generosity.  Maria had a true zest for life.  She loved to make people laugh and tell jokes; she thought life should be filled with laughter. She loved to dance and sing, and she especially enjoyed the tango.  Music brought her great joy, and she could often be found listening to the songs she loved.  Her love of music and dancing reflected the vibrant spirit she carried throughout her long and beautiful life.  She was deeply loved and will be remembered for the love, laughter, strength and generosity she shared with those around her.

Her 102 years were a testament to a life richly lived and a legacy of love that will continue through her family.  Maria will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.  

The family will receive friends 1-4 PM Sunday (August 16th) at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pong Road, Rochester, NY 14626. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday (August 17th) 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park Rochester, NY 14615. (parking for church is on Ridgeway Ave. side). Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
