Rochester: Evelyn Ann Adams, née Botsford, died in her home with family at her bedside on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at approximately 7:45pm. She was 70 years old.

A New York State resident all her life, Evelyn was born in Elmira, New York in 1955, the youngest of four children. She was valedictorian of her graduating class at Hammondsport High School and, at approximately the same time, hitchhiked to see James Brown in concert, which just goes to show that a person can be very smart and very cool at the same time. She graduated from Le Moyne College (go Dolphins) and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Albany Law School (go books), where she met her eventual husband, Tony Adams. The two settled in Rochester, New York where they raised three sons, Christopher, Nathan and John and spoiled nine grand children. She  served as an example of kindness and grace for countless nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was an animal lover, both domestic (her many beloved dogs and cats) and exotic (manitees, gators). She was generous with her humor, quick to smile, and blessed with an infectious laugh so she never enjoyed jokes alone. She found community everywhere she went, and enjoyed reconnecting with friends across the country whenever she could – high school buddies in Hammondsport; fellow Dolphins in and around Syracuse; law school chums on Cape Cod; family vacations to Massachusetts, Canada, Vermont, or anywhere a lake might be found. She loved music – folk, americana, rock & roll, R&B, and later in life the noisy indie rock her children exposed her to. She was a voracious reader, and loved sharing books with others as much as she did reading them. She was a consistent and quiet example of patience and compassion, who spent more time thinking about others than she spent thinking about herself, all the way up to the end of her life. Her last request was that her sons clean the garage; we promise we’ll get to it.

She is preceded by her parents, Bill (passed in 1967) and Eloise (passed in 2011); her sister Margaret (passed in 2021), and her nephew Bill (passed in 2018). She is survived by her siblings Jennifer and Norman (Jeddie); her husband Tony; her sons Chris (Jessica), Nathan (Meagan), and John (Katie); her grandchildren Jack, Henry, Ann, Lillie, Evelyn, Ruth, Louise, Eloise, and Hannah; and many nieces and nephews, including Emily, Danny, Leigh Ann, and too many others to name.

The family would like to thank the doctors and medical staff that helped her through the last few years of her life; their work gave Evelyn’s many loved ones several more great years with her, which is a blessing. An extra special thanks to cousin Ann Kost, who was a guide in her last days and without whom we would have been lost. The family would also like to thank everyone who sent food, flowers, prayers, or messages over the last five years. You were a light in her life then and remain so now.

Friends may call Monday (April 13th) 4-7 PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road.  Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday (April 14th) 10:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment, South Perinton Cemetery.

Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday (April 18th) 11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Greece.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name should be made to Catholic Charities or the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Bath, New York.

Jennifer, I’m so sorry about your sister‘s passing. Cindy told me earlier today. While I miss seeing you, I am happy you relocated so you could be close to all of your family.
(BTW, her obituary was wonderful – painted a picture of a woman I would love to have known. Clearly, she was beloved by all.)

We just heard this sad news. We are so sorry to hear this. Her kids (very young) were friends with our kids until we moved to Florida. We were friends too. We lived across the street from her family
We are sorry to hear this

Margie was my childhood friend and Evie was just a few steps behind us when we got together. There was a long gap in years before Evie and I reconnected, probably at the Kost homestead. My sympathies to Jen and Norman and Ann Kost who connects so many of us from Birdseye Hollow.
