November 5, 1928 – April 7, 2026

Rochester: John C. DeFazio found eternal peace surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the age of 97 years old.

Predeceased by his wife, Rose of 59 years who passed on May 23rd, 2011; parents Salvatore and Josephine DeFazio; brothers, Leonard & Alphonso DeFazio; Sisters, Connie Penepent, Rose Butera, Josephine DeGoris, Felicia Boies; daughter-in-law Barb DeFazio; great granddaughters, Melanie Lynn and Kayelynn Briana.

Survived by his beloved devoted sons Sam, Chris (Vicki); cherished grandchildren, Brian (Kristi), Christopher, Stephanie (Dave); cherished great-grandchildren, Lily Ann, Benjamin Brian, Kaitlynn Christina,  Davey Christopher; Loving sister, Mary Dee Ognibene; and many nieces and nephews. 

John loved gardening and had beautiful flower gardens that were ever changing.

He also enjoyed arts and crafts and made many Christmas ornaments and decorations for family and friends. His love for music and Dancing was his passion. 

John had a strong faith and was devoted to his family. He was a proud retiree from Bausch & Lomb.

The family would like to give special thanks to his long-time primary care physician Dr. Richard Constantino; also the staff at St. Ann’s Community and Optum for all the love and great care; and the doctors and nurses at Rochester General Hospital, especially Kim and the entire Hospice team. 

Also many thanks to his devout friend Danny Pleckan who was considered to  be a third son and always there for him as well as long-time friend of the family Joanne Pellicia.

Friends may call Friday (April 10th) 4-7 PM at the Vay-Schleich & Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday (April 11th) 11:30 AM in the Chapel at St. Ann’s Community 1500 Portland Avenue,  Rochester,  NY 14621. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to St. Ann’s Community 1500 Portland Avenue,  Rochester,  NY 14621.

    Truly be missed. Was a great & cheerful member of our former YMCA Retirees group downtown E Main Street Rochester group..Condolences to the Family RIP John 💛💛💛

    John had many friends at Greece Baptist Church. He will be missed by all. The members of our church will keep his family in our prayers as they lay him to rest.
