Mary Lou (Hoffman) Young, 95, of Rochester, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2025.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Mary Lou was the beloved daughter of the late Jonah and Olive (Downey) Hoffman. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Herbert W. Young Sr.; her son, Herbert W. Young Jr.; her brothers, Harold W. Hoffman, Earl Hoffman, and Edward C. (known as Teddy) Hoffman; and sisters, Marie (Hoffman) (Robert L.) Reutzel, and Edna (Hoffman) (Vincent) Pitchford .

Mary Lou is lovingly remembered by her son, Russell E. Young; daughter-in-law, Doris M. (Herb) Young; and her niece, Linda (Henry) Haddad. She also leaves behind a devoted family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy: Leah M. (Matthew) Brenner and their daughters Joclyn, Maddeline, and Alivia; Kelly R. (Frank) Ceraci and their children Tristan and Kahlan; Lori B. (Bradley) Kessler and their children Tovah, Kolton, and Brayden; Katie L. (Steve) Fox and their children McKenna, Hannah, Patrick, and Aura; and Matthew (Liz) Young and their children Briar and Caden.

Mary Lou was known for her warm heart, strong spirit, and vibrant personality. She could always be found with a cup of coffee in hand, no matter what time of day.  She also loved ice cream and felt there was no such things as too much. She was an avid gardener, always tending to her flowers with care and pride. She enjoyed shopping, never passing up a good find, and had a lifelong love for dogs. A passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, she proudly cheered for her hometown team through every season.

In 2002, Mary Lou relocated to Rochester to be closer to her son and grandchildren, where she continued to enjoy the love and companionship of her family.

A service will be held to honor Mary Lou’s life Tuesday (July 15th) 3:30 PM in the Chapel of Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road. Her Graveside Prayers will be held Thursday (July 17th) 1:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA.

She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
