William G. Howell

William (Bill) G. Howell, 68, of Greece, NY died peacefully after a short illness on May 1 with his wife, sons, and brother at his side. Bill was the son of the late Lois M. (Jones) Howell. He was born October 22, 1954 in Scranton, PA. He was a 1972 graduate of Abington Heights School District in Clarks Summit, PA. He graduated from Keystone Junior College and continued his education at Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating with a B.S. degree in Professional Photography and a M.S. degree in Applied Statistics. Bill enjoyed applying the principals of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing in various situations both in his professional work and in his passion of baking. He once did a controlled experiment looking at the spread of cut out cookies in order to get the proper ratios of flour to sugar to fat, which produced the optimal Christmas cookie. Bill retired in 2018 from Rockwell International.

Bill enjoyed the outdoors and, in the summer, could be found at the family camp in the Adirondacks. He enjoyed walking Faith, his Labrador retriever, fishing (especially fly fishing), target shooting and smoking a good bowl of tobacco in his pipe. He was a person of many interests including waterfowl hunting, O-gauge trains, perfecting his cookie baking method and dreaming of owning a Model T car. He often shared his baking experiments with neighbors, friends, and family. His annual Christmas mailing of home baked cookies was an event looked forward to by family and friends alike.

Bill was a thoughtful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda; his two sons Brandon (Christen) Howell and Tyler (Mary-Colleen) Howell, a brother David (Anna Marie) Howell; cousin Robert (Judy) Jones and five grandchildren, Maddie, Cameron, Kevin, Rosemary and Clara, several nieces, nephews, a great-nephew, brothers and sisters-in-laws, and friends. He will be greatly missed.

No prior calling. Private Burial will be held at Falls Cemetery in Greece at 10:00am on Saturday, May 20th. Guestbook

  1. Dear Howell Family: my heart goes out to you during this time of mourning. Thinking of you.

  2. Dear Linda and Howell Family,
There is no word in any language to ease your pain of losing beloved Bill.
Bill’s last words to me were “sometimes it comes to an end”.. but I want to believe there is another beginning beyond this world and now Bill is there.
He has been a great friend to me for so many years. He mentored me with his genius mathematical brain and with his exceptional positive personality. I will always feel lucky that our paths crossed in this life. He will forever be a special friend to me.
He made our holiday seasons exceptional with his Christmas cookies – particularly the turtle chocolates! We will always remember Bill’s box of happiness every Christmas he sent to us.
Sending you our deepest sympathies. May he rest in peace in the lights of heaven.
    Love,
    Ayla & Levent Tezcan

  3. Dear Linda and family,
I was very sad to hear of Bills passing. I was in Stillwater two days after you told me. Looking out on the reservoir I thought back on my conversations with Bill. Make a 5 min. check on the camp which would end up being an hour so talking with him. I enjoyed those conversations very much. I considered him a good friend and I will miss him and our conversations.
