  9. I first met James, the man I’d soon come to consider as not only one my closest and dearest friends in this world but also as my brother, back in the summer of 2017. Shortly after moving into the small house behind the one he shared with his apparent soulmate Tammie I met James in our driveway and with the words “so you’re a big Cowboys fan too, huh?” (I’d seen the Cowboys flags flying proudly from his porch) the foundation for an incredible friendship and unbreakable bond was created. Following that James and I began to get to know each other through our interactions around the house and the usual comings and goings as neighbors. Then one evening I was privileged to have James invite me to join him for one of his cherished campfires and it was that night I realized that this would become a friendship that was truly special. James and I spent the next five plus hours talking about virtually everything, our childhoods, family, shared interests, of course our beloved Cowboys, you name it. We even learned that both our mothers had grown up in Warwick RI. When I finally got to bed at 3 a m I knew I’d found more than just a real good neighbor. After that James and I would always find ways to spend time together, watching football, working on various home improvement projects, taking trips to Lowes so James could add to his tool collection, BBQs etc. Campfires became a nightly ritual and was always our favorite time. If it got dark and I wasn’t outside already I could expect either a knock on my door or a text with a picture of the fire burning, my cue to get out there. James and I established in just months a closeness that with others had taken years. It was just that easy to be his friend. To me it was obvious James’s greatest loves were Tammie (they were just made for each other), his family, Dallas his dog, his cats, his toolshed (complete with AC, heater, fridge, stereo and his prized tool collection),his garden, grilling, of course our Cowboys and those campfires. I can’t count the hours we spent around that fire pit. James is the very personification of what a true friend really is and I will always feel extremely honored, privileged, lucky, and blessed to have had him as mine. James, I love you brother. Thank you for all you brought to my life and for all the great times and memories. You’re always in my heart and in my thoughts. We’ll have another campfire one day, buddy. Count on it. GO COWBOYS!!!
