Greece: Went peacefully with his Maker, Saturday, July 5, 2008 at age 83. Survived by his loving wife of 54 ½ years, Elaine Mellema; sons, Lloyd (Karen) Mellema, Donald Mellema (MaryJo Geist); William (Lucille) Mellema; daughter, Brenda (Jim) Pentycofe; brother, James (Chris) Mellema; sisters, Olive (Gordon) Simone, Linda (Greg) Lennon, Diane (Fred) Burtton; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson. Jack was a retired 20 year veteran who served in World War II, the Battle of the Bulge and the Korean War. He was an avid director of many drum corps and color guards. Jacks Memorial Service will be held Wednesday,(August 27) 7:00PM at the Durand United Church of Christ, 4225 Culver Road, Rochester, NY 14622.

You were sweet, funny, and also a loving, caring, compassionate man, who adored his loving wife, family, and friends. In my life I have known many people, none have touched my soul as knowing Jack.He lived life as a role model to us all and to all who knew him.Even in the darkest hours,his ever-glowing smile of kindness was there.It has been a great honoh to have known you Jack.     I cant’ believe your really gone. It seems like we were just talking and then a day after you left. We may not be able to see you as a person but i know your spirit will always be around us. You were a borrowed angel, and they wanted you back home. Sooner or later we will see you again. You’ll always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for letting me call you grandpa!
